I am married and have three children. Our oldest son is in high school – yikes. Our daughter is a happy-go-lucky girl with an independent streak. Our youngest is and will continue to be the child that lands me in the emergency room on a regular basis.
I have been a Colorado girl most of my life. My ski-bum dad (he still teaches skiing every winter) moved us here when I was 4. I graduated from college in Colorado, then worked as a graphic artist for a small publishing company. I also worked as a technical trainer for two software companies. Can you say geek? Currently, in addition to landing my dream job writing reviews for Mother Proof, I am a member of the local school board. Somewhere in a previous life, I loved to travel beyond the neighboring suburb.
I drive a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The mom feature I use the most is the split, folding backseat, thanks to my three kids and all our gear. I love being able to reconfigure the car to fit one more kid or more gear as needed. I also really appreciate the entertainment system (although I’m one of the meanest moms on the planet and only let my kids watch DVDs if we’re traveling for an hour or more). What do I like least about the car? That would have to be the engine: loud on acceleration and totally gutless off the line.
I don’t think I could pick just one; I’m a little car-crazy. The main thing I look for in a car is comfort and safety for me and my kids. I also want the car to be stylish and full of technology. Of course, these days I’m also looking for fuel efficiency.
I love to go to my local coffee shop with my laptop and sip a good cup of coffee while perusing the internet. Call me crazy, but I am a techie at heart. I also love to hike, bike and ski.
I would say my biggest tip is don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is too short to worry about the grape jelly stain on your daughter’s new white shirt –– throw it in the craft box and use it for a smock. Truly, feed your kids good stuff, give them tons of kisses, read them books and tell them the truth. Most of all, have confidence and consistency in your decisions. Oh yeah –– don’t forget to indulge in chocolate.
Well, this will sound totally cliché, but my favorite thing is when my kids just randomly say, “I love you, Mom.” It makes even the hard days worthwhile.
Have I mentioned my coffee addiction? I love coffee and Pepperidge Farms Orange Milano Cookies. I love the ritual of drinking coffee, and what could be better than dipping a sweet chocolate cookie in hot coffee with cream? On the other hand, there’s also ice-cream. Mmmmm.
I would probably be at a spa, getting the full treatment. Can you picture it –– massage, facial, pedicure and mud wrap? OK, I lied. I would probably be right here on the computer. Sick puppy.
